Also in this episode, Mountain Stage hosted two shows at The Franklin Theatre in Franklin, Tennessee this week. Our song of the week comes from the performance of Judith Owen, a Welsh singer-songwriter and self-described “drama queen.”

Owen and her band called the “Gentlemen Callers” performed the cult classic song “I Put A Spell On You,” originally recorded in 1956 by “Screamin’ Jay” Hawkins.

If Judith Owen had not gone off to become a powerhouse singer-songwriter, she could have easily become a full-time humorist with her sharp wit and self-deprecating charm.

For her fourth appearance on Mountain Stage, the Welsh chanteuse is joined by Portuguese percussionist Pedro Segundo and the legendary bassist Leland Sklar for a performance of “We Give In,” which you can also hear during this week’s broadcast.

This week’s broadcast also features an extended set from “the little orchestra” Pink Martini, as well as performances from heavy-hitting singer Beth Hart and savvy singer-songwriter Don Dixon.
