MetroNews Poll Shows Justice In Front

A new MetroNews West Virginia gubernatorial poll is out and it shows Jim Justice leading bill Cole.

Democratic Candidate Jim Justice leads Republican Candidate Bill Cole by an 11-point margin in the race for Governor of the state. The MetroNews West Virginia poll of 408 likely voters was conducted from October 12th through the 17th after the second gubernatorial debate.

Justice leads 44 to 33 percent. The Mountain Party candidate Charlotte Pritt would receive 8 percent of the vote if the election were held today, while Libertarian David Moran would receive 5 percent. Nine percent of people polled are undecided on which candidate they’ll vote for on November 8th.

The poll was conducted by Repass Research and Strategic Consulting through interviews conducted on landline phones, cell phones and op-in internet panels.

Bill Cole Critical of Donald Trump Comments

West Virginia Republican gubernatorial nominee Bill Cole has criticized Donald Trump for his recently released comments about women.

Cole released a statement Saturday that as a father of two teenage daughters, he was offended by Trump’s remarks, which were recorded in 2005. Cole has endorsed Trump and appeared with him at a rally in May at the Charleston Civic Center.

Cole says that demeaning women “is never acceptable.” He says he understands that Trump has apologized for the comments, and Cole says he hopes it is a lesson that Trump carries with him in the future.

While dozens of other Republicans have called for Trump to quit his campaign, Cole made no mention of it. Trump says his campaign will continue.

Cole faces Democrat Jim Justice on Nov. 8.

Gingrich to Fundraise for GOP Governor Hopeful

Newt Gingrich is heading to West Virginia to boost the gubernatorial campaign of Republican Bill Cole.

The Cole campaign says Gingrich, the former U.S. House speaker and presidential candidate, will be in Martinsburg for a Thursday evening fundraiser.

Gingrich’s appearance adds to the list of high-profile Republicans coming to West Virginia for Cole.

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence came to Charleston before being named Donald Trump’s vice presidential nominee. Texas Gov. Rick Perry also was in Charleston for a Cole fundraiser. Former Florida Gov. and presidential candidate Jeb Bush came to Morgantown to help Cole raise money.

Cole introduced Trump during the presidential nominee’s rally in Charleston in May.

Cole, the state Senate president, faces Democratic billionaire businessman Jim Justice in November.

Justice has distanced himself from national Democratic politics.
