Between the two of them, Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn have appeared on Mountain Stage over 15 times in the last twenty years. Until the First Family of the Banjo make their next appearance on the show (get to writing, Bela/Abby!), we’ll go ahead and listen back to their past pick’n tunes on Mountain Stage After Midnight.

If you’ve read this post’s title, you know that you’re in for a treat overnights this weekend. So without further ado… it’s Mountain Stage After Midnight!

First up is a 2009 show featuring Mike Doughty, Dala, Dawes (who you can see LIVE on the Mountain Stage next week!), Langhorn Slim and Diane Birch.

Broadcast from 1am-5am Saturday and Sunday mornings here on West Virginia Public Broadcasting, “Mountain Stage After Midnight” takes the best episodes from the show’s 31 year history and shares their memories and songs with our late-night listeners.

Hear some musically-minded couples this Saturday February 14 and Sunday February 15 on “Mountain Stage After Midnight.”

First up is a 2013 show, recorded in Sunny Buckhannon, West Virginia. It includes sets from folksy roots group The Stray Birds, Tennessee bluegrass band The SteelDrivers, alternative country outfit Houndmouth, Toad the Wet Sprocket singer/songwriter Glenn Phillips and “husband-and-wife banjo adventurers” Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn.

Next up is a 2011 show featuring Boston-based guitarist Patty Larkin, American folk duo Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer, bluegrass companions Jim Hurst & Missy Raines, alt-country legend Lucinda Williams and Americana husband-wife team Buddy & Julie Miller.

First Family of the Banjo Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn return to Mountain Stage this week, with songs from the first album they’ve recorded together as a duo. Over a bed of intertwined banjos, Abigail takes the lead on a song Bela wrote, lyrics and all, “What’cha Gonna Do?”

First you’ll hear the 400th episode of Mountain Stage featuring performances from the the late/great R&B singer Fontella Bass, Virginian instrumental trio The Holmes Brothers, West Virginia troubadour Todd Burge, American folk singer Chris Smither, Americana couple Tim & Mollie O’Brien, and the innovative “blu-bop” group Bela Fleck & the Flecktones.

Next is Mountain Stage’s 700th show featuring performances from old-time banjo player Riley Baugus, husband-and-wife country-folkers Robin & Linda Williams, Australian singer-songwriting couple Kasey Chambers & Shane Nicholson, iconic Texas grassroots band The Flatlanders, and the blues-rock’n Robert Cray Band. Bela Fleck & Abigail Washburn, Yonder Mountain String Band Added to Mountain Stage Schedule

Exciting things are on tap for our fall schedule of live Mountain Stage events. There are five shows scheduled and we just made some exciting new additions that you can read about below.

We’ve added the “first family of banjo,” Bela Fleck & Abigail Washburn, to our October 26 live recording at the Culture Center Theater on the capitol grounds here in Charleston. Tickets are available online, at Taylor Books or by calling 800.594.TIXX(8499). Here’s a recent write-up from Rolling Stone Country.

This event will be a part of FestivALL FALL, which runs October 24-26.

Also scheduled to appear on October 26 are Australian pop sensation Kate Miller-Heidke, power-house blues vocalist Janiva Magness and Irish duo Storyman, who have appeared twice on Mountain Stage as Guggenheim Grotto.

October 5 is SOLD OUT! We are excited to welcome Puss N Boots, a country-tinged trio featuring Sasha Dobson, Norah Jones and Catherine Popper, to our show in support of their debut album, “No Fools, No Fun,” which is out now. As you might guess, advance tickets sold out VERY quickly. We also sold the remainder of our “Fall Access Ticket Packs,” which included a ticket to each of the five shows.

Any available tickets will be put on sale on show day, starting at 5p.m., for $25 at the Culture Center Theater. Also appearing October 5 are Blake Mills, The Duhks, Jill Barber and Curtis McMurtry.

The Devil Makes Three, who opened shows recently for Alison Krauss & Willie Nelson, are appearing on Mountain Stage in Charleston Sunday November 2.

Also just announced- Sunday November 2 we welcome Yonder Mountain String Band and The Devil Makes Three, alongside peerless songwriter James McMurtry and emerging duo Lily & Madeleine. We expect tickets for this one to go fast also, so get them now while you still can.
