State Parks Seeking Volunteer Hosts

The state Division of Natural Resources is looking for volunteers to help at state campgrounds this summer.

The DNR says in a news release that state parks currently accepting applications for volunteer campground hosts include Audra, North Bend, Pipestem Resort, Tygart Lake and Watoga.

Individuals are required to serve a minimum number of days according to each park’s needs. They also must undergo training on the position and responsibilities.

Beech Fork State Park superintendent Dillard Price says volunteer hosts do routine maintenance of the campground area, collect fees and answer questions from campers. Price says that enables park staff to concentrate on maintenance, seasonal openings and other duties required to keep the parks operating.

Mail-in applications will be accepted beginning Feb. 15, followed by phone-in reservations beginning March 15. Walk-in reservations can be made beginning April 1.
