The rear facade of the Fairmont Village Apartments partially collapsed in a flash flood after the area received more than 3 inches of rain June 15, 2025 in less than an hour. No deaths have been reported in connection to the incident.

More flood relief funds have been approved for ongoing recovery efforts in Ohio and Marion counties.

Both areas were hit by devastating flooding that ripped apart buildings and roadways over the Father’s Day weekend and caused the deaths of nine residents near Wheeling.

Gov. Patrick Morrisey issued a disaster declaration over the flooding June 20. President Trump declared the two counties a major disaster in July and granted the state $11.7 million in individual federal aid.

Trump said on social media at the time that he looks forward “to seeing the state make a full recovery,” adding, “I love West Virginia!”

Late Thursday night Morrisey confirmed Trump had approved the state’s request for additional funds for public assistance.

“This public assistance from FEMA is critical to aiding our recovery efforts in Marion and Ohio Counties,” Morrisey said. “I am grateful to President Trump for once again delivering for West Virginia, and to our federal delegation for their support. We are going to keep coming together as Team West Virginia until these communities make a full recovery,”

The funds can be used for state and local governments and some non-profits to cover their costs for debris removal, response costs and restoration of infrastructure.
