Tennessee Company Sues The Greenbrier Hotel Corporation

A Tennessee company has filed a lawsuit against The Greenbrier Hotel Corporation in West Virginia and two affiliated companies, citing The Greenbrier resort’s failure to pay out on damaged rental equipment.

The Charleston Gazette-Mail reported Sunday that Special Event Service and Rental accuses the resort of receiving a roughly $623,000 insurance reimbursement and failing to transfer the funds to the lender.

According to the filing, The Greenbrier rented equipment from the company to host the Greenbrier Classic golf tournament, which was canceled in the days after flooding in 2016.

The lawsuit also names Old White Charities in the lawsuit, which helped put on the tournament, and “John Doe Insurance Companies 1 through 20,” which insured the equipment.

The Greenbrier declined to comment to The Charleston Gazette-Mail.

Greenbrier Owner to State: Remove Sponsorship of Tournament

In disgust over the West Virginia Legislature’s delays to implement a budget, Democratic nominee for governor Jim Justice has asked the state to remove its $1.75 million sponsorship of the PGA Tour’s Greenbrier Classic.

The billionaire owner of The Greenbrier resort made the comments Monday in a statement released by his campaign.

A $270 million gap remains in the state budget for the fiscal year starting July 1. Lawmakers began meeting in special session Monday. Justice’s opponent in November is Republican Senate President Bill Cole.

Justice says he doesn’t want the state’s support for the tournament “to be used as a political football.”

Justice also said this year’s tournament in July would be free and open to the public, although concerts normally held during the tournament won’t occur this year.

Presidential Hopefuls to Skip Governors Meeting in State

The four Republican governors eyeing the presidency in 2016 won’t be on hand for a national governors meeting next week in West Virginia.

Kasich is the only one in the group who hasn’t officially entered the race yet.

Spokespeople for the governors and their campaigns confirmed the officials wouldn’t be at the event.

The meeting will take place July 23-25 at The Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs. The association holds meetings in the winter and summer.

Justice Plans W.Va. Golf Course Designed by Legends

The billionaire owner of The Greenbrier resort says Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Lee Trevino will design a nearby mountaintop golf course.

Jim Justice announced plans for the new golf course, ski slopes and housing development in a news release Monday.

The release says the golf resort will break ground within 30 days and is expected to open in fall 2016. Justice says he hopes to attract the U.S. Open to the course someday.

The Greenbrier currently hosts The Greenbrier Classic, a PGA Tour event coming up over the July 4 weekend.

The resort also hosts the New Orleans Saints football training camp part-time.

Justice is running for West Virginia governor as a Democrat. The primary election is in May 2016, followed by the general election that November.
