State Tourism Releases Pet-Friendly Guide for State

Dog lovers can get a guide of pet-friendly attractions in West Virginia.

The free, 20-page booklet lists places to go and things to do while accompanied by pets on leashes.

The state Division of Tourism released the “West FURginia Guide” last week.

The Charleston Gazette-Mail reports that among such available attractions are several restaurants and eateries, dog-friendly cabins at state parks, and sternwheeler cruises to Blennerhassett Island State Historical Park.

Copies of the guide are available by calling (800) 225-5982, or by visitingwww.GoToWV.com .

Elizabeth Cook, Qiet Added to July 31 Mountain Stage

Alt-country singer-songwriter Elizabeth Cook and West Virginia-based rockers Qiet have been added to the bill for Mountain Stage’s live production Sunday, July 31 at the Culture Center Theater. As previously announced, the show will also feature  jam-grass favorites Leftover Salmon. Advance tickets are $20, available online, by phone at 877-987-6487 or locally at Taylor Books in downtown Charleston.

Cook is prepared to release “Exodus of Venus” on June 17, and the powerful video for “Slow Pain” premiered recently via Galore. This will make Cook’s 4th appearance on Mountain Stage since 2002.

Beloved gypsy rockers Qiet will make their Mountain Stage debut on July 31, with songs from the recently released crowd-funded project “Kiss The Universe.” They’ve built a dedicated following by blazing their own path throughout our state and the region with their jangly blend of performance art and Appalachian charm.

“We are thrilled to come together with Mountain Stage and local partners to showcase the Mountain Music Trail,” Commissioner of Tourism Amy Shuler Goodwin said. “Music is a significant part of West Virginia’s cultural identity and this program will encourage folks to not only explore the Mountain Music Trail, but other destinations along Route 219 as well.”

The Mountain Music Trail consists of venues throughout five counties in eastern West Virginia that came together to promote and present the traditional music, dance, and folkways of the Allegheny Mountain region. Several months ago, the West Virginia Public Broadcasting production team took to the road to capture the essence of the trail which runs through Tucker, Randolph, Pocahontas, Greenbrier and Monroe counties as part of a partnership between Wild, Wonderful West Virginia and Mountain Stage, a production of West Virginia Public Broadcasting to promote the Mountain Music Trail.
