Former Fire Chief Pleads Guilty to Embezzlement Charge

A former fire chief has pleaded guilty to embezzling money from the Rivesville Volunteer Fire Department.

The Times West Virginian reports 31-year-old Justin Stover pleaded guilty Tuesday. He was accused of embezzling money from the fire department from January 2012 through December 2013 while acting as fire chief.

Stover was arrested in November 2014 on a felony offense of embezzlement. On Tuesday, he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of embezzlement.

Marion County prosecutors say Stover bought personal items such as truck parts and Internet purchases with the department’s money.

He was sentenced to two years of probation.

According to the plea agreement, he must pay remaining restitution to the department’s insurance company.

The Clintonville Volunteer Fire Department will receive $32,000 from FEMA’s Fire Prevention and Safety Program.
