The entire state of West Virginia is under a hazardous weather outlook due to thunderstorms and high winds. But more severe weather is forecasted for central and southern West Virginia.
Thunderstorms will carry the potential to produce severe weather Friday afternoon across central and southern West Virginia through the night.
Gabe Wawrin, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Charleston, said damaging wind, hail and even isolated tornadoes are possible across northeast Kentucky, southern West Virginia and southwest Virginia.
“We also have issued a flood watch for flash flooding until 4 a.m. Saturday morning for localized instances of flash flooding, given repetitive rounds of rainfall,” he said.
A similar series of intense storms brought flooding to the Eastern Panhandle and Maryland’s mountain counties earlier this week.
“Areas that have been hit hardest recently with rainfall, they would be most susceptible given any sort of heavy thunderstorm or raining activity,” Warwin said. “But the forecast currently calls for the heaviest activity, rainfall-wise, to be across southern and central West Virginia. But isolated instances are certainly possible throughout the state.”
Warwin advises listeners to keep up to date on the latest forecast and have a plan of action in place in case of flooding or power outages.
