Mountain Stage, the long running live performance radio program produced by West Virginia Public Broadcasting and distributed nationally by NPR Music, is changing venue locations for its final two live recordings of the year with host Kathy Mattea.
“We’ll be able to welcome more ticket holders to our Nov. 15 show now that we’ve made arrangements with the Charleston Theater at the Convention Center to accommodate the move,” said Executive Producer Adam Harris. “This show is in high demand, so we’re happy to open it up to even more music lovers.”
Among the guests scheduled to appear on Nov. 15 are modern day roots rock group Greensky Bluegrass from Kalamazoo, Michigan. The relentlessly touring progressive string band founded the 4848 Festival at Snowshoe Mountain and their tenth full-length offering, “XXV”, features contributions from Sam Bush, Lindsay Lou, and Billy Strings.
“We love and support public radio, so any opportunity to perform on air, especially on such an institution as Mountain Stage is an honor, said Anders Beck of Greensky Bluegrass. “We first played Mountain Stage in 2011 and look forward to returning for our 4th time in a few weeks.”
Long-time fans of Mountain Stage will no doubt feel a ping of nostalgia when the program records its 43rd anniversary show at the Capitol Theater in Downtown Charleston on Sunday, Dec. 6. The location that hosted Mountain Stage from 1987-1990, then known as the Capitol Plaza Theater, is most famously remembered for the iconic “R.E. M. Show,” held in April 1991 when the world-renowned band appeared on Mountain Stage at the peak of their fame, raising the West Virgina-based program’s profile immensely.
The Dec. 6 lineup includes Fred Tackett and Scott Sherrard from Little Feat in a rare acoustic duo configuration. Just announced, adding to the high-profile lineup, is two-time Grammy-winning American musician and storyteller Rickie Lee Jones.
Along with her longtime collaborator, percussionist Mike Dillon, “The Duchess of Coolsville” (Time magazine) will make her first appearance with Mountain Stage since 2001, and nearly 30 years since the first time in 1997. She has 19 albums to her credit, including 2023’s Grammy-nominated release “Pieces of Treasure.”
Both of these Mountain Stage events are General Admission and ALREADY ON SALE at MountainStage.org. All ticket links and prices remain the same. Find full lineups for each show and ticket links below:
