A Huntington native won his second Tony Award Sunday night and will be co-hosting this year’s West Virginia Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
Michael Cerveris, a Huntington native, won his second Tony Award for his lead role in “Fun Home.” The musical is based on Alison Bechdel’s graphic novel and memoir about her complex relationship with her father played by Cerveris.
Cerveris won his first Tony in 2004 when he played John Wilkes Booth in “Assassins.” He also starred in the title roles of “Sweeney Todd” and “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.” Cerveris originated the title role in the Broadway hit, “Tommy” and played it more than 1,400 times.
Cerveris will be co-hosting this year’s West Virginia Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony. He’ll be joined by Joyce DeWitt, another West Virginia native from Wheeling who starred in “Three’s Company.”
The ceremony will take place on October 24, 2015 at the Culture Center Theater in Charleston. West Virginia Public Broadcasting plans to air the event live across the state on television, radio, and online.
