M.C. Taylor is the front man and songwriter for North Carolina-based roots rock band Hiss Golden Messenger, whose electrified sound blurs the lines between country, blues and folk music. The band makes their second appearance on this week’s episode of Mountain Stage with Larry Groce.

Lead by songwriter M.C. Taylor, Hiss Golden Messenger has created a name for themselves primarily in the Americana folk genre but offer sounds pulled from a multitude of influences. The band’s first appearance on the show was back in 2014, which you can hear a bit of bellow.
Kris Delmhorst‘s most recent release, The Wild, allows us to dive into the artists’ eclectic taste and poetic songwriting. Watch her video for “All The Way Around” now.
Throughout her rising career, Nicki Bluhm has delved into an impressive lineup of collaborations which include Phil Lesh, Ryan Adams, and The Infamous Stringdusters. Her new album “To Rise You Gotta Fall” was done in Memphis, and it sounds like Memphis!

This will be Teddy Thompson’s third visit to Mountain Stage. Since his last in 2006, he has released five albums, including Family, a collaborative of songs put together by each member of his family, including his parents Linda and Richard Thompson.

“The response to our last #WhyListen parties in Huntington and Charleston were phenomenal,” says West Virginia Public Broadcasting host and #WhyListen event coordinator Joni Deutsch. “Getting young folks in the same room to listen to new, local tunes and have an open music discussion is a special thing to witness. We can’t wait to bring the party to the New River Gorge this April.”
The #WhyListen event will include a first listen of music from West Virginia and beyond, including the premiere of new music from regional acts The Company Stores, The Parachute Brigade, Mark Cline Bates and The Kind Thieves. Guests will enjoy Secret Sandwich Society’s local brews and beverages for the night as they “talk tunes” with Mountain Stage host and artistic director Larry Groce, West Virginia Public Broadcasting host Joni Deutsch and Fayetteville singer-songwriter Andrew Adkins.
The event marks West Virginia Public Broadcasting’s fourth project with NPR Generation Listen, an initiative to bring young, intellectually curious minds into the public broadcasting community. This event marks the station’s first collaboration with Secret Sandwich Society and Generation New River Gorge.
