Television Specials Bloom in March

March brings a bouquet of great TV specials on West Virginia Public Broadcasting. There are highly anticipated season finales, incredible music, and  trip around the nation on scenic railways.

GREAT PERFORMANCES follows the creation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s pop culture Broadway phenomenon Hamilton and the history behind it. Interviews with Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush, Nas, Questlove, Stephen Sondheim and more.

Magic Moments: The Best Of 50s Pop (My Music)
Saturday, March 4, 6 p.m.

Phyllis McGuire, Pat Boone and Nick Clooney host this nostalgic trip back to the 1950s. The program’s mix of live performance and archival footage takes viewers back to the era’s pop music days with classic moments from Patti Page, Perry Como, Debbie Reynolds, the McGuire Sisters and more.

Roy Orbison: Black & White Night 30
Saturday, March 4, 8 p.m.

Celebrate the 30th anniversary of an iconic concert with an all-star cast including Jackson Browne, T Bone Burnett, Elvis Costello, k.d. lang, Bonnie Raitt, J. D. Souther, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits and Jennifer Warnes. Newly edited and remastered.

Soul diva Patti LaBelle hosts the historic reunion of classic recording artists of the decade, including the Commodores, original lead Eugene Record reuniting with the Chi-Lites, the Stylistics, Yvonne Elliman, Heatwave, Earl Young’s Trammps, the Emotions and the Manhattans.

Joe Bonamassa: Live at the Greek Theater

Celebrated blues rock master Joe Bonamassa delivers a musical tribute to The Three Kings Of the Blues (Albert, Freddie and B.B.) at the legendary Greek Theatre.  An autographed guitar will be auctioned during the program.

The Highwaymen Live At Nassau Colosseum
Sunday, March 12, 8 p.m.

Join Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson —“the Mt. Rushmore of country music”—for this live concert recorded in 1990. The Highwaymen perform classics like “Big River,” “Me and Bobby McGee” and “Always on My Mind.”

Brad Paisley – Landmarks Live In Concert
Thursday, March 16, 8 p.m.

Country music superstar Brad Paisley returns to his roots in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains for a special outdoor concert at West Virginia University. Hosted by Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Sunday, March 19, 7 p.m.

Hosted by Grammy-winning musician and storyteller David Holt, Trains Around North America traces America’s railroad history, telling the unforgettable stories of the continent’s historic and scenic tourist railroads.
