Jackfert to Host Classical Hour, "Jazz After Hours" to Return to WVPB

West Virginia Public Broadcasting (WVPB) is pleased to announce changes in its radio program line-up, featuring new voices and returning favorites.

Composer and announcer Matt Jackfert will host a new classical music show Monday through Thursday from 2 – 3 p.m. on WVPB.

 

He joins our other classical hosts: West Virginia Broadcasting Hall of Famer Frank Stowers, and Peter Van de Graaff, a professional singer who has performed with opera companies and orchestras throughout the world.

 

Long-time host Jim Lange stepped down last month for personal reasons, but he continues to produce his ever-popular Eclectopia, heard twice weekly on WVPB.

 

Beginning October 1, Jazz After Hours will air 1 a.m. – 5 a.m.in lieu of Mountain Stage After Midnight on weekends. Jeff Hanley is the new host of Jazz After Hours, since Jim Wilke retired last year.

 

At 5 a.m. on the weekends, the BBC World Service will replace Bob Edwards Weekend, which is no longer being produced.

 

Effective September 8, the WVPB mid-day schedule will be as follows: 

 

9 – 10 a.m. / BBC Newshour

10 a.m. – Noon / Performance Today

Noon – 3 p.m. / Classical Music *

Get to Know WVPB's Hosts at Live on the Levee

Get ready, Charleston! Jim Lange, Matt Jackfert, Bill Lynch and Joni Deutsch are coming to town (well, to Live on the Levee, at least).

 

Come on down to Moses’ Live on the Levee this Friday night to see Charleston pop rockers A Story Told and Charleston eclectic folkers The Company Stores (who produced their new record at our station) play a free show on Haddad Riverfront Park.

Matt Jackfert Discusses His Future Music Career After Performance Today Premiere

All of us here at West Virginia Public Broadcasting are very proud of our in house composer and afternoon news host Matt Jackfert.  On Performance Today Friday morning, Matt’s worked titled “Vandalia” will make its broadcast premiere.

The performance by the West Virginia Youth Symphony Orchestra was recorded at the State Opera House in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia, which is the sister city of Charleston, West Virginia.  Matt talked with West Virginia Morning host Beth Vorhees about his work.

Composer Matt Jackfert’s work “Vandalia” will be featured on Performance Today Friday morning.  The program begins at 9:00.  Matt’s segment appears during the classical music shows second hour and will begin at 10:06.

On Friday during Classical Music with Matt Jackfert, Matt will be airing the Calvin Oratorio Society’s 2013 performance of Handel’s Messiah, the complete oratorio for Easter.

Tune in to West Virginia Public Radio at approximately 12:50 p.m. and enjoy the performance until 3 p.m.

Featuring the Calvin College Orchestra under the direction of John Varineau, conductor.

This year’s performance was recorded in December 2013 at the Covenant Fine Arts Center Auditorium on the campus of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich., as part of the society’s 94th season.
