After years of complaints and proceedings with the Public Service Commission of West Virginia, three struggling Fayette County water and sewer systems will be sold to West Virginia American Water.
Armstrong Public Service District, Kanawha Falls Public Service District, and Page-Kincaid Public Service District will be sold to the water company for $13 million. The sale will be final as soon as the Fayette County Commission dissolves the entities.
Water customers for the three utilities currently pay less than West Virginia American customers, but their rates will be adjusted upward over a three-year period.
The agreement also calls for the water company to immediately begin planning to address leaking sewage at Cannelton Hollow, which has been a longstanding problem that has generated multiple complaints.
