The West Virginia Parkways Authority warns drivers to make travel plans around expected heavy traffic through Monday, May 26 while traveling the West Virginia Turnpike.

The authority estimates close to a quarter of a million vehicles will travel on the parkway this Memorial Day Weekend. The highest traffic volumes are anticipated on Friday and Monday.

The Parkways Authority has recorded more than half a million total transactions on the turnpike during Memorial Day weekend in recent years.

Travelers are advised expect delays at the Chelyan Toll Plaza where a bridge reconstruction project puts traffic in one lane in both directions.
