Less than 24 hours after he resigned from the West Virginia House of Delegates, Daniel Linville was appointed to the position of Director of Special Projects by Gov. Patrick Morrisey.
The governor said in the announcement that Linville will help advance several key initiatives for the administration.
“Daniel has demonstrated throughout his public service that he knows how to bring people together and deliver results,” Morrisey said. “He will continue working to improve water and sewer systems, reform government, advance economic growth, and help every community share in West Virginia’s success.”
His appointment is effective immediately.

Del. Daniel Linville, R-Cabell, has officially resigned his seat in the West Virginia House of Delegates.
His resignation became official Sunday night at midnight, but he was set to leave the legislature at the end of the year. Linville lost in the Republican primary election on May 12, by a narrow 3 vote margin.
Linville was originally appointed to a seat in the 16th district in 2018 by then-Gov. Jim Justice. Redistricting moved him into the 22nd district, covering portions of Cabell and Lincoln counties. He successfully ran for re-election until this year.
In his resignation letter, Linville said a new opportunity had come up, but he did not explain what that opportunity was.
