WVPB Production Team Receives Three Anthem Awards

WVPB announced they have received three awards in the 3rd Annual Anthem Awards. This year’s Anthem Award Winners were selected from a pool of over 2,000 submissions from 44 countries by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS).

CHARLESTON, WV: WVPB announced they have received three awards in the 3rd Annual Anthem Awards. This year’s Anthem Award Winners were selected from a pool of over 2,000 submissions from 44 countries by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS).

Congratulations to our staff:

  • Read for the Record is the Bronze Anthem Winner in Education or Literacy Platform
  • West Virginia Public Broadcasting’s Annual Writers Contest is the Silver Anthem Winner in Education or Literacy Program or Platform
  • Communities in Schools: Friends with Paws is the Bronze Anthem Winner in Film, Video, Television or Show

WVPB Director of Production Chris Barnhart says the team is honored to be recognized for another national level award. “It’s always special when the award is the product of multiple departments working together,” said Barnhart. “The award-winning shows were collaborations between the education, newsroom, digital and production teams.”  

Launched in 2021 by The Webby Awards, the Anthem Awards honors the purpose and mission-driven work of people, companies, and organizations worldwide. By amplifying the voices that spark global change, we’re defining a new benchmark for impactful work that inspires others to act in their own communities.

The Anthem Awards honors work across seven core causes: Diversity; Equity & Inclusion; Education; Art & Culture; Health; Human & Civil Rights; Humanitarian Action & Services; Responsible Technology; and Sustainability, Environment & Climate.

Anthem judges are intellectually diverse leaders from across the impact industry with expertise that spans across the Anthem cause areas.

WVPB To Join The Wheeling Nailers For Pups And Pucks Night

The WVPB Education Team and Clifford the Big Red Dog invite you to attend Pups & Pucks Night, Saturday, Feb. 3 at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia. 

Meet Clifford the Big Red Dog Saturday, February 3 at 7:10 p.m. at the WesBanco Arena in Wheeling

The WVPB Education Team and Clifford the Big Red Dog invite you to attend Pups & Pucks Night, Saturday, Feb. 3 at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia. The puck drops at 7:10 p.m. as the Wheeling Nailers take on the Orlando Solar Bears.

Attendees are invited to bring their dog to the game, designating Sections 312-316 as Puppy Seating. Kids of all ages can meet Clifford the Big Red Dog courtesy of WVPB. The WVPB staff will also have a table of giveaway items and educational materials.

Additionally, you can enjoy the On-Ice Puppy Parade during intermission and get your player autographs.

WVPB invites you to learn more about a new docuseries, GOSPEL. The series explores the rich history of Black spirituality through sermon and song and delves into its extraordinary impact on culture and pop music.

WVPB invites you to learn more about a new docuseries, GOSPEL, from Executive Producer, host, writer Prof. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. The series explores the rich history of Black spirituality through sermon and song and delves into its extraordinary impact on culture and pop music.

The preview will be followed by a brief panel discussion and refreshments. The event is free and open to the public.

West Virginia Public Broadcasting (WVPB) recently aired a new documentary about the life of Medal of Honor recipient, Woody Williams titled, Woody Williams: An Extraordinary Life of Service. The public is encouraged to join us for a special screening on Monday, Dec. 11 at 5:30 p.m.

WHAT:  Screening of Documentary Film Woody Williams: An Extraordinary Life of Service

WHERE: Culture Center Theater. Capitol Complex

WHEN: 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

The documentary chronicles the life of Hershel “Woody” Williams, America’s last living World War II Congressional Medal of Honor recipient. William’s life was dedicated to God, family, country and perhaps above all, service. In 2022, Williams passed at the age of 98, and would lie in honor at both the West Virginia State Capitol and the US Capitol.

The documentary shares how Williams at the age of 85, formed the Woody Williams Foundation, dedicated to honoring and helping Gold Star Families. Through the work of the foundation, there are now Gold Star Families Monuments in every state.

WVPB Foundation Receives Grant To Support Books For Buddies Reading Initiative  

The West Virginia Public Broadcasting Foundation, Inc. has received one of 60 grants recently announced by Your Community Foundation of North Central West Virginia, Inc. (YCF).

CHARLESTON, WV – The West Virginia Public Broadcasting Foundation, Inc. has received one of 60 grants recently announced by Your Community Foundation of North Central West Virginia, Inc. (YCF). The grants were presented at a celebration sponsored by Hope Gas at the Morgantown Marriott at Waterfront Place on Nov. 15. The nonprofit distributed the donations to local charitable organizations in celebration of National Community Foundation Week.

These awards, ranging from $120 to $14,000, support community programs, schools, services and initiatives across Harrison, Marion, Monongalia, Preston and Taylor counties.

“The mission at West Virginia Public Broadcasting is to educate, inform and inspire,” stated WVPB Education Director Maggie Holley. “One of our favorite things to do is to get books in the hands of children. The Books with Buddies program provides books for kids across West Virginia. We are thrilled to receive this grant from the Stephen D. Tanner Children’s Enrichment Fund, which is made possible by Your Community Foundation of North Central West Virginia.”

These grants were awarded on National Philanthropy Day, Nov. 15, which coincides with National Community Foundation Week, celebrated annually from Nov. 12-18. “On behalf of YCF’s Board of Directors, we thank our generous community of donors who make these grant awards possible,” said YCF’s Board Chair Martin Howe. “We also congratulate the nonprofits and schools receiving the awards and working to improve the lives of residents throughout our region.”

YCF’s mission is to promote philanthropy and build endowment funds to benefit our communities. Through financial resources, YCF extends many forms of assistance to qualified people, programs and projects. Primarily serving North Central West Virginia, YCF works to make charitable giving easy, flexible and effective.

West Virginia Public Broadcasting (WVPB) is now live streaming on Hulu + Live TV, one of the nation’s largest streaming services for live television with more than 4.5 million subscribers. Hulu + Live TV’s subscribers will now have access to inspiring and educational content created by the WVPB production team, along with PBS favorites.

CHARLESTON, WV  – West Virginia Public Broadcasting (WVPB) is now live streaming on Hulu + Live TV, one of the nation’s largest streaming services for live television with more than 4.5 million subscribers. Hulu + Live TV’s subscribers will now have access to inspiring and educational content created by the WVPB production team, along with PBS favorites, including PBS NewsHour, FRONTLINE, MASTERPIECE, Antiques Roadshow and WVPB PBS KIDS channel.

Participating PBS stations like WVPB will make Hulu + Live TV available in more than 300 markets over the next year. This agreement represents PBS’s continued commitment to make its quality and award-winning content accessible to all Americans on as many digital platforms as possible.

“We are extremely excited that West Virginia Public Broadcasting has been added to the local channels for subscribers of Hulu + Live TV,” said WVPB Interim Executive Director Eddie Isom. “This will allow more cord cutters to continue watching the local documentaries WVPB produces. As program distribution continues to evolve, WVPB will continue to grow our live streaming. We were added to DIRECTV and the PBS App earlier this year. We hope to add more streaming services in the near future.”
