On this week’s encore broadcast of Mountain Stage, CBS Sunday Morning correspondent, and West Virginia native, Conor Knighton joins us as guest host to welcome The Baseball Project, The Minus 5, Bob Mould, Chris Stamey, and Loose Cattle.

For the first time since 1991, Peter Buck and Mike Mills of R.E.M. returned to Mountain Stage, this time as part of supergroup The Baseball Project, a baseball-themed outfit that writes and performs songs about baseball legends, events, and culture. Formed in 2007, this group of rock legends is comprised of Buck and Mills (R.E.M.), along with Scott McCaughey (Young Fresh Fellows), Steve Wynn (The Dream Syndicate), and Linda Pitmon (Steve Wynn and the Miracle 3, Zuzu’s Petals).

Our Song of the Week is their live performance of “To the Veterans Committee,” a musical endorsement to induct Dale Murphy into the Baseball Hall of Fame. “Two MVPs and five Gold Gloves/ Atlanta fans’ undying love”

Elsewhere on this episode of Mountain Stage, you’ll hear performances by pop rock band The Minus 5 -comprised of all the same members of Baseball Project on different instruments, plus alt-rock pioneer Bob Mould, renowned North Carolina producer, songwriter and founding member of The dB’sChris Stamey, and indie-country band Loose Cattle. Check out the full playlist here.
