On this week’s premiere broadcast of Mountain Stage, we continue our Fall season with an episode recorded at the historic Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center in Clarksburg, WV. Host Kathy Mattea welcomes Paul Thorn, Raul Midón, Eden Brent, Wood Box Heroes, and Jett Holden to the stage.
Our Song of the Week is “Life Is Just A Vapor” by Paul Thorn. This track will be a part of Thorn’s upcoming album “Life is Just a Vapor” via Thirty Tigers. Thorn is a Mississippi native who started off as a professional boxer, turning to songwriting in the 1990s. He has been a guest on Mountain Stage over ten times and continues to win us all over with his poignant and often hilarious songs and storytelling.
Tune in to one of our affiliate stations starting Friday, Sept. 27 to hear the full episode with live performances by Paul Thorn, New Mexico-born singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Raul Midón, queen of Mississippi blues Eden Brent, bluegrass supergroup Wood Box Heroes, and rising country artist Jett Holden.

Our Song of the Week comes from The Critton Hollow String Band, a band that has been performing traditional American music to audiences around the world since 1975. The trio stopped by Mountain Stage during their 50th anniversary and performed a handful of songs, including "A Better Life to Find," which is our Song of the Week. The song features an old melody and a traditional refrain, with lyrics updated by the group's Joe Herrmann.
