In December, West Virginia University art professor Joseph Lupo tagged Inside Appalachia in an Instagram post that showcased four-color reductive relief prints made by WVU students — each one inspired by a story or episode they heard on the show. Inside Appalachia host Mason Adams spoke with three of Lupo’s students and asked them to describe their work and its connection to the show.
Our Song of the Week comes from singer-songwriter and guitarist Joy Clark. “Tell It To The Wind” was written in a moment of gratitude while Joy was on tour in Waterford, Mississippi at Foxfire Ranch. In this moment, she realized she had everything she dreamed of as a child. On her Band Camp page, Joy writes “I had my guitar, my boots, and horses! My heart was filled with gratitude and instantly I had an entire chorus.”
Tune in to one of these affiliate stations starting Friday, March 14 to hear Joy’s full set, plus live performances by country singer and songwriter Kip Moore, Old Dominion guitarist and hit songwriter Brad Tursi, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Marlin of Watchhouse and Mighty Poplar brings the Andrew Marlin Stringband, and West Virginia “Ya’llternative” rock band Matt Mullins & The Bringdowns.
On this week’s encore broadcast of Mountain Stage, you’ll hear live performances by Al Stewart, Livingston Taylor, Sweet Honey In The Rock, The Nighthawks, and Cristina Vane with host Kathy Mattea. We recorded episode 1,054 on the campus of George Mason University at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas, VA.
Our Song of the Week comes from the charming, topical folk singer-songwriter, Loudon Wainwright III, who has made over 17 appearances on Mountain Stage across every decade that the show has existed since 1983. His performance of “Middle of the Night” is our Song of the Week.
