On this week’s premiere broadcast of Mountain Stage, host Kathy Mattea welcomes Jeff Tweedy, The War and Treaty, Johnnyswim, and Olivia Ellen Lloyd. Recorded live at the Culture Center Theater in Charleston, WV.
Our Song of the Week comes from Jeff Tweedy, who is no stranger to Mountain Stage. Over the years, he has joined us as a member of alt-country pioneers Uncle Tupelo, and with the popular Chicago experimental rock band, Wilco. This time he performed with a more familial kind of band, that includes his sons, Spencer on drums and Sammy on backing vocals.
We’ve chosen “Lou Reed Was My Babysitter” by Jeff Tweedy as our Song of the Week. In a Substack update, Tweedy said, “Pretty early in the pandemic, I was already missing live music. Eventually, I started missing even the things I used to hate about going to clubs to see bands. Pretty sure that’s where I got the idea to write this song.”
Tune in to an affiliate station near you starting Friday, June 6 to hear Tweedy’s full set, plus more live performances by GRAMMY-nominated husband and wife duo The War and Treaty, folk and soul singer-songwriters Johnnyswim, West Virginia native and country singer-songwriter Olivia Ellen Lloyd, plus a special performance from Country Music’s Lionel Cartwright, another West Virginian, who performs his hit song, “I Watched It All On My Radio.”
