LISTEN: The Critton Hollow String Band Has The Mountain Stage Song Of The Week

Listen

On this week’s premiere broadcast of Mountain Stage, host Kathy Mattea welcomes Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out, Jack Blocker, Cole Quest & The City Pickers, Courtney Hartman, and The Critton Hollow String Band.

Our Song of the Week comes from The Critton Hollow String Band, a band that has been performing traditional American music to audiences around the world since 1975. The trio stopped by Mountain Stage during their 50th anniversary and performed a handful of songs, including “A Better Life to Find,” which is our Song of the Week. The song features an old melody and a traditional refrain, with lyrics updated by the group’s Joe Herrmann.

You’ll also hear live performances by bluegrass legend Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out, rising Americana artist Jack Blocker, Brooklyn bluegrass and folk group Cole Quest & The City Pickers, featuring Quest, the grandson of Woody Guthrie, and singer-songwriter and guitarist Courtney Hartman.
