Salvage Yard Agrees to Pay $10K Violation

A salvage yard business has agreed to pay a $10,000 fine for failure to obtain a water pollution-control permit.

The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown reports USA Parts Supply will make the payment in increments of $616.

The proposed settlement was announced Tuesday by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection.

The department says the permit violation was initially documented in February 2013 and in March 2015.

In March, the DEP discovered that the permit had not been obtained to discharge into the waters of the state and that storm water had been leaving the salvage yard through a conveyance system at the rear of the property.

The DEP says Mike Cannan of USA Parts Supply signed the consent order detailing the proposed resolution on Oct. 19.
