Pine Grove Water Advisory Lifted

Officials in Pine Grove say the northern West Virginia community has lifted a water advisory three days after an oil spill in a creek.

Town recorder Rhonda Spencer said tests showed the town’s tap water is safe for consumption and that officials decided at a meeting Tuesday to lift an advisory for residents to use the water only for flushing toilets.

Officials from MarkWest Energy’s Mobley natural gas processing plant in Wetzel County reported the heat transfer oil spill Saturday morning.

MarkWest Energy initially said an undetermined amount of oil got into the north fork of Fishing Creek. The facility holds about 10,000 gallons.

Spencer says the investigation to determine how much oil spilled remains ongoing.

Pine Grove is a community of 550 residents about 110 miles southwest of Pittsburgh.
