Robert Burton has been named president of West Virginia American Water.

The utility announced Burton’s hiring Monday. Burton most recently was senior director of operations for Pennsylvania American Water, where he oversaw operations for more than 50 water plants and 10 wastewaters systems serving 200 municipalities.

Burton replaces Brian Bruce, who recently left the company after serving as president for two years.

West Virginia American Water serves about 530,000 state residents.

Last year, the company asked the Public Service Commission to support an increase to monthly bills for customers.
