U.S. Senators Joe Manchin and Shelley Moore Capito announced Thursday that three West Virginia institutions will split over a million dollars in federal awards to establish a new telemedicine network in rural communities and schools.

Roane County School District and Pocahontas County Board of Education each will receive almost $500,000.

CAMC Health and Education and Research Institue is receiving almost $200,000. The money will be used to establish a new telemedicine network for rural schools and hospitals in central and southern West Virginia.

Telemedicine networks are increasing across the United States as a way for medical and educational experts to expand services to rural and undeserved communities.
