On this week’s encore broadcast of Mountain Stage, you’ll hear live performance radio from the Canady Creative Arts Center on the campus of West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia. This episode features jam-grass pioneer Vince Herman Band, blues singer songwriter and storyteller Roy Book Binder, classic country duets from Teddy Thompson & Jenni Muldaur, Vermont rock and soul singer Kat Wright, and the fusion of Venezuelan and Appalachian folk music from Larry & Joe.
Vince Herman is one of the most highly revered names in the modern jam band scene. Like our host Kathy Mattea, Vince studied at WVU before making his way into the music world full time. During his tenure in West Virginia, Herman played in a number of bands and learned from bluegrass legends like fiddler Melvine Wine among many others. Vince and his band’s performance of “Lost Lover’s Eyes” – which appeared on his 2022 solo debut, Enjoy the Ride – is our Song of the Week.
