FSU Announces Free Tuition Offer

Listen

Fairmont State University (FSU) will start offering free tuition to some West Virginia students.

The Access Scholarship is a tuition-free guarantee from Fairmont State to West Virginia residents or graduates of a West Virginia high school.

To be eligible, applicants must be accepted to the university, have a household income of $70,000 or less and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by June 15.

The Access Scholarship promises to cover the remaining tuition and mandatory fee costs following the application of all federal and state grant aid.

“Fairmont State has long been committed to making higher education more affordable and accessible,” said President Mike Davis in an email. “The launch of the Access Scholarship program is another step toward fulfilling our vision of being A Great Place to Learn. Our goal is to provide students with a high-quality education without the burden of overwhelming debt, opening doors to life-changing opportunities.”

The FSU Board of Governors also recently voted to freeze in-state tuition and reduce out-of-state tuition for the 2025 academic year.

West Virginia University announced a similar WVU Guarantee program last month, while Marshall University’s “Marshall For All” project has worked to graduate students debt-free for the past two years.
