Fayette County Puts Smoking Ban Amendment on Hold

The Fayette County Board of Health has decided not to vote on proposed amendments to the county’s Clean Indoor Air Regulation.

The Register-Herald reports that the board refused to take up the agenda item during its meeting last week. The amendments would prohibit smoking inside hotels, private clubs, bingo operations, fairs and festivals.

The board also tabled the item in May after hearing public comment. Following that meeting, the board asked health officials to meet with business owners and the Tobacco Coalition. Because of June’s floods, however, they were only able to meet once.

Fayette Count Health Department Administrator Danny Scalise says he’s unsure if the board will address the amendments at its next meeting in September.

The amendments have been opposed by bars and video lottery business.
