Hundreds of people will converge this weekend at Big Bear Lake Trail Center in northern West Virginia for an annual endurance mountain bike race.
“This is our 6th year of doing the Big Bear Lake 2 x 12, which is a two-person team relay race racing on 12-mile, single-track loops,” said Jeff Simcoe, the race promoter and the recreation land manager at the Big Bear Lake Trail Center.
Simcoe expects to attract some 200 racers, professional bikers and fans. But there are also races for the slightly less ambitious riders.
“We have a pro-open class that guarantees $6,000 in cash prizes, we have a sport class, and we have a two-for-fun class that for someone who is maybe just getting into mountain bike racing and maybe wants to experience a high-level event,” Sincoe said.
There will also be tike races. For the littles. Simcoe says it’s a family-friendly event. The race is Saturday, June 13, 2015, and there will be music, camping, and craft beer afterward. On-site registration Friday June 12th from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Race Day Registration until 9 am.
