On this West Virginia Morning, Chef William Dissen’s memories are seasoned with the flavors of West Virginia’s mountains. Some of those memories have become part of the chef’s award-winning restaurant The Market Place in Asheville. From the latest episode of Inside Appalachia, Folkways Reporter Margaret McLeod Leef recently spoke with Dissen while he was visiting Charleston to talk about his debut cookbook, Thoughtful Cooking.
And our Mountain Stage Song of the Week comes to us from James McMurtry, who has performed on the Mountain Stage 15 times over three decades. This live performance of “Painting by Numbers” appears on his album Too Long In The Wasteland, which was released in 1989, the same year McMurtry made his first appearance on Mountain Stage.
