Authorities say murder charges are being filed against a father and son accused of killing a North Carolina couple as part of a multi state crime spree that ended in a police shootout.

A news release Friday from the office of District Attorney Michael Waters in North Carolina says Edward Campbell and Eric Campbell face two counts each of first-degree murder, along with robbery, burglary, arson and other charges.

The news release says the warrants are being served on the men in custody in West Virginia, where a shootout with police occurred.

Authorities identify the victims as Jerome Faulkner, 73, and his wife, Dora Faulkner, 62.

Granville County Sheriff Brindell B. Wilkins Jr. has said he believes the Campbell’s burst into the couple’s home near Oxford, North Carolina the morning of Jan. 1, set the house on fire, killed the couple and stole their SUV.
