West Virginia residents recovering from last summer's floods can explore available resources at a meeting in White Sulphur Springs.

The meeting will be held Thursday evening at the White Sulphur Springs Civic Center.

Small businesses in Greenbrier County are bouncing back following last year's devastating floods.

The Register-Herald reports that the city of White Sulphur Springs staged a series of ribbon-cutting ceremonies earlier this month to welcome nearly a dozen businesses that have either newly opened or reopened after the June 23 floods. The floods killed 23 people and ravaged homes, businesses and infrastructure.

Writer Margaret Prescott Montague was born at White Sulphur Springs on November 29, 1878.  Her books, which were set mostly in the southern mountains, included The Poet, Miss Kate, and I; The Sowing of Alderson Cree; Calvert’s Valley; and Linda—all written before she’d turned 35.

Her brother was superintendent of the West Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind in Romney. Montague’s interest in his students inspired her book Closed Doors.

The Greenbrier's 710-room hotel is reopening to the public more than two weeks after the West Virginia resort's property was ravaged by floods.

Resort owner and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jim Justice announced last week that the hotel in White Sulphur Springs will welcome back paying guests on Tuesday, July 12.

Residents of towns like Rainelle and White Sulphur Springs continue to gut their homes and clean up debris. Many residents are now moving on to the next step: applying for assistance and then deciding on their next move.

A sheriff says a body found in Greenbrier County over the weekend has been identified as a woman who had been missing following last month's devastating floods.

Greenbrier County Sheriff Jan Cahill said Wednesday that one of two bodies found Saturday was positively identified as 33-year-old Nataysha Hughes of White Sulphur Springs.

The Greenbrier Classic's free ticket giveaway has prompted officials to look for more volunteers to help this year's golf tournament run smoothly.

Greenbrier owner Jim Justice says in a news release he'll hold a drawing in which one volunteer will win $20,000 at the end of the tournament.

U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts is set to speak at a judicial conference at The Greenbrier resort.

Roberts is scheduled for a question-and-answer session Wednesday in White Sulphur Springs with Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Keith Urban and The Band Perry will perform in concert during this year's Greenbrier Classic golf tournament.

Officials of the PGA Tour event said Thursday the country music acts will perform Wednesday, July 1, at the State Fair of West Virginia's amphitheater in Fairlea the day before the tournament begins at the White Sulphur Springs resort.

Brush fires have burned more than a dozen acres in Southern West Virginia.

One fire burned about 10 acres in the White Sulphur Springs area. Another fire burned about 5 acres in the Princeton area. Both fires occurred on Sunday.

Firefighters have contained both fires.

West Virginia's spring forest fire season began March 1 and runs through May 31. A ban on daytime outdoor burning is in effect during the season.
