State Sen. Jeff Mullins, a Republican representing a swath of southern West Virginia, says he's resigning because of business and family obligations.

Mullins, who has held the seat since 2015, chairs the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee.

A West Virginia mayor has resigned after alleged wrongdoings by him and another town employee came to light.

The Times West Virginian reports that Town of Rivesville Mayor Trevor Waters and Bill Lawrence resigned on Monday. The town said in a news release that the men were given the opportunity to resign in lieu of termination and removal from office. The council voted to appoint Mark Dorsey as the mayor.

A sheriff in West Virginia has announced his resignation after seven months on the job.

News outlets report Monroe County Sheriff Sean Crosier submitted his resignation to county commissioners Tuesday, effective Sept. 4. Crosier said in a statement that he has taken a job with an undisclosed organization that prepares the U.S. Department of Defense and other security agencies for chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive attacks.

West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice says Nick Casey is no longer his chief of staff.

Justice issued a statement Monday announcing Casey's departure and said he wished more had been accomplished during the legislative session. Justice said he had "given this a lot of thought and going forward I just didn't see any pathway where it would work out."

West Virginia State Auditor Glen Gainer will resign from his position earlier than expected.

Longtime State Auditor Glen Gainer announced Thursday he will be stepping down from his position on May 14 to take a job with a Virginia-based nonprofit group.

The West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals has scheduled oral arguments in the case over replacing a state Senator who resigned earlier this month. 

Sen. Daniel Hall of Wyoming County resigned from his seat on Jan. 3. Hall, a Republican, had switched his party affiliation after the 2014 mid-term elections giving the West Virginia GOP a majority in the upper chamber for the first time in more than 80 years.

Wyoming County Senator Daniel Hall announced Tuesday he'll resign from the position effective Jan. 3, 2016. Hall will leave the seat he's held since 2012 to take a job as a lobbyist for the National Rifle Association covering many states, including West Virginia.

U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia Booth Goodwin will resign from his post after 15 years in the office.

Goodwin has served as the U.S. Attorney since May 2010, but previously worked in the office as an assistant U.S. Attorney since 2001.

Democrat Linda Goode Phllips says she will resign on Dec. 31 and won't seek another term in the House of Delegates. Republican Amanda Pasdon says she's resigning Jan. 1 from the House.

The Wayne County assessor has resigned ahead of a hearing on whether he should be removed from office.

Eric Hodges submitted his letter of resignation on Friday. He has been in jail since late August on charges of embezzlement, computer fraud and two counts of unlawful use of a state purchasing card, among other charges.

Marshall Basketball Coach Tom Herrion Resigns

Marshall Basketball’s season ended last Wednesday night with a 73-58 loss to Old Dominion in the Conference USA basketball tournament. On Friday Head Coach Tom Herrion resigned.

The season ending loss capped an 11-22 season for Herrion and the Herd. Over the last two years Marshall was a combined 24-41 and in Herrion’s four years was 67-67 overall. After a discussion between Athletic Director Mike Hamrick and Herrion Friday morning, Herrion resigned his position as head coach. Hamrick said as much as Herrion was liked in the athletic department it was not working out.
