Few things capture a child’s imagination like a good book. Each year, WQED, PBS39 , WITF, and West Virginia Public Broadcasting encourage children in Pennsylvania and West Virginia, in Kindergarten through 3rd grade, to create their own stories and take part in the PBS KIDS Writers Contest.

Parents Overwhelmingly Agree No Other Media Brand Meets Their Children's School Readiness Needs Like PBS KIDS

West Virginia PBS airs 11 hours of PBS KIDS programs each weekday and serves children and their families statewide through its Ready To Learn service.

Entries are now being accepted for the annual PBS KIDS Writers Contest, designed to promote the advancement of children’s literacy skills through hands-on, active learning. The contest is open to children in kindergarten, first, second and third grades and encourages them to celebrate their creativity while building literacy skills by writing and illustrating their own stories.

New episodes Feb. 3-7 on WV PBS, daily at 10 a.m.

In advance of the Winter Olympics, Sesame Street has partnered with Team USA and PBS Kids to celebrate and support the athletes. This week focuses on games, sports and sportsmanship.

Friday is the last day to bring new or gently used books to West Virginia Public Broadcasting's three sites as part of the 2014 Happy Valentine's Day Children's Book Drive.

A new study conducted by Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC), and SRI International found that the acquisition of essential early math skills, such as counting, recognizing numerals, recognizing shapes, and patterning, increased significantly among four- and five-year-old children from economically disadvantaged communities who participated in a 10-week PBS Kids Transmedia Math Supplement initiative. Transmedia includes the use of familiar characters, settings, and stories across different media formats.

Starting Monday, Arthur kicks of its  17th season with a week of new episodes on WV PBS and award-winning actor Alan Cumming (Masterpiece Mystery!; The Good Wife) makes a special appearance in "Show Off," Monday’s episode.

Watch WV PBS on Monday at 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. for the premiere of Curious George: A Halloween Boo Fest. The centerpiece of PBS KIDS’ Halloween programming lineup, this one-hour special features three original songs, including “It’s Halloween Today,” sung by Pat Monahan, the lead singer of Train.

West Virginia Public Broadcasting staff from around the state spent part of their day reading to school children as part of Jumpstart's Read for the Record initiative. On Thursday, October 3rd West Virginia Public Broadcasting staff joined others across the country to read the children’s book Otis by Loren Long.

Today, PBS Kids launched a collection of new online and mobile games and activities from its newest media property Peg + Cat. The collection includes a new app: the Peg + Cat Big Gig App for iPad, Kindle Fire and other Android devices, in addition to online games and offline activities that families can enjoy together.

Peg + Cat = Hilarious Adventure! This new preschool series follows the adorable, spirited Peg and her sidekick Cat as they embark on adventures, solve problems and learn foundational math concepts and skills.

This video is from the first episode where Peg and Cat have to find all the chickens and get them back in their coop.

Sid the Science Kid will be at the October Sky Rocket Boys Festival on Saturday, Oct. 5 at New River Park from 1 to 3 p.m.

The walkabout character will assist at the launch pad and be available for photos.
