The PGA Tour has approved a name change for The Greenbrier Classic in West Virginia.

The Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs says in a statement the tournament will now be known as A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier.

A Tennessee company has filed a lawsuit against The Greenbrier Hotel Corporation in West Virginia and two affiliated companies, citing The Greenbrier resort's failure to pay out on damaged rental equipment.

In disgust over the West Virginia Legislature's delays to implement a budget, Democratic nominee for governor Jim Justice has asked the state to remove its $1.75 million sponsorship of the PGA Tour's Greenbrier Classic.

The billionaire owner of The Greenbrier resort made the comments Monday in a statement released by his campaign.

West Virginia Attorney General's Office

Republican attorneys general from across the county will meet next month at The Greenbrier resort.

The Republican Attorneys General Association is set to hold its summer national meeting at the resort in White Sulphur Springs from Aug. 1-4.

West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey sits on the organization's executive committee. Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi chairs the executive committee.

The four Republican governors eyeing the presidency in 2016 won't be on hand for a national governors meeting next week in West Virginia.

Scott Walker in Wisconsin, John Kasich in Ohio, Bobby Jindal in Louisiana and Chris Christie in New Jersey won't attend the National Governors Association summer meeting.

The billionaire owner of The Greenbrier resort says Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Lee Trevino will design a nearby mountaintop golf course.

Jim Justice announced plans for the new golf course, ski slopes and housing development in a news release Monday.

The release says the golf resort will break ground within 30 days and is expected to open in fall 2016. Justice says he hopes to attract the U.S. Open to the course someday.

Lee Trevino has been named golf pro emeritus at The Greenbrier resort in West Virginia.

The resort announced Thursday that Trevino will replace Tom Watson, whose agreement with The Greenbrier wasn't renewed after 10 years.

  Legendary golfer Sam Snead was born on May 27, 1912, in Ashwood, Virginia. In high school, he excelled at baseball, basketball, football, and tennis but decided to focus on golf. He started teaching the game at The Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs in the ’30s and, in 1936, won the first of 17 West Virginia Opens. The next year—his first on the PGA tour—Snead captured five wins. Then, in 1938, he won the first of eight titles at the Greensboro Open. His last victory at Greensboro came at age 52, making him the oldest player ever to win a tour event. He also won seven majors and a total of 82 PGA tournaments, placing him first all time in victories, ahead of “Tiger” Woods and Jack Nicklaus.

Democrat Natalie Tennant and Republican Shelley Moore Capito will attend a U.S. Senate candidate forum next week.

State Chamber of Commerce President Steve Roberts says they'll participate in the Aug. 28 event as part of the chamber's annual meeting at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs.

In the 2nd Congressional District, Democrat Nick Casey and Republican Alex Mooney will participate in a chamber forum Aug 29. The same day, Democrat Glen Gainer and Republican Congressman David McKinley will attend a 1st District forum.

Cole Hand and Alston Spears, two West Virginia junior golfers, will participate alongside professional golfers at this year's Greenbrier Classic, which began Monday.

Hand and Spears were invited to play in the practice rounds and Pro-Am of the PGA Tour FedEx Cup event at The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, according to a release from the Governor's office.

While visiting the West Virginia Capitol, New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton praised his team's plans to move some of its training camp to The Greenbrier.
 
Payton was on hand Thursday as Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin signed a tourism bill. The Greenbrier's training camp and a new medical facility would benefit from the law's tax credits.
 

The Gridiron Is Coming to The Greenbrier

The New Orleans Saints announced Thursday they will be using the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs for part of its 2014 training camp.

General Manager of the Saints Mickey Loomis says the team wants to take advantage of a more moderate climate and setting in West Virginia. It will still spend some time training in New Orleans.

The Saints won a Super Bowl a few years ago under head coach Sean Payton.

The locations, times and dates haven't yet been released of when the Saints will be in town.

The Greenbrier resort and its billionaire owner could receive up to $25 million in tax breaks over 10 years for a new medical institute.
 
Owner Jim Justice said the $86 million medical resort would offer doctors that care for professional athletes. It was first announced in 2011.
