Community Events

To round out December 2014, West Virginia Public Broadcasting "took the show on the road" with creative and fun community events in several cities. Bob Thompson invited special guest Mollie O'Brien to join him for the 22nd annual performance of the holiday Joy To The World conference. O'Brien is a native of Wheeling, and that made the decision simple--JTTW would host performances in Wheeling, Charleston, and Beckley this year, three concerts in three days on December 11, 12, and 13.

For years now, we've reported on the state's many health issues.  We've done stories about childhood obesity, the prevalence of heart disease and diabetes.  This morning, we'll learn what many communities and the citizens who live in them are doing to make it better.  This Friday and Saturday, these communities will come together to share what works at the first Try This conference at West Virginia Wesleyan College.  Kate Long is among those organizing this gathering which began as a result of a series of stories she wrote for The Charleston Gazette.

Join us Friday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m. in Morgantown for a presentation about the national PBS documentary, "The Story of the Jews with Simon Schama" and the West Virginia Public Radio series highlighting the Jewish experience in West Virginia.  Reporter Glynis Board will discuss her interview with Dr. Edith Levy, holocaust survivor and educator.

Sid the Science Kid will be at the October Sky Rocket Boys Festival on Saturday, Oct. 5 at New River Park from 1 to 3 p.m.

The walkabout character will assist at the launch pad and be available for photos.

This year's October Sky Rocket Boys Festival is Oct. 4-6 at two locations, Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine and New River Park.  Learn more...
