West Virginia University is launching the Center on Research and Violence.
The Morgantown school says the center will aim to learn more about violence and limit its effects.
It will earn grants to work on government and nonprofit projects, host conferences with leading speakers on violence and interact with communities across West Virginia and the nation.
The center will be composed of six WVU sociology and anthropology staff members. Walter DeKeserdy will serve as the director of the center.
Officials say the center hopes to soon expand to integrate members from various disciplines, including public health, medicine and psychology.
