Pain Clinic Infractions Included Errors and Guns

A report says infractions found at a pain clinic closed by the state included unsecured guns and medication errors.

The Charleston Gazette obtained the state inspection report through a Freedom of Information Act request. The newspaper says the report shows that Hope Clinic’s Charleston facility employed former police officers who routinely carried concealed weapons.

Jolynn Marra, head of the state Office of Health Facility Licensure, tells the newspaper that the guns weren’t secured.

Medication errors included prescriptions given to the wrong patients.

Hope Clinic spokesman George Manahan tells the newspaper that the clinic believes any deficiencies could have been remedied in a short period of time. He says Hope Clinic didn’t challenge the report because the Charleston facility was already winding down operations.

The clinic closed earlier this year.
