Mountain Stage Travels in August

After this Sunday's SOLD OUT show with Umphrey's McGee (Part of the Charlie West Summer Jam Weekend)  Mountain Stage is hitting the road for two shows in seven days! More details are available at our Live Show Schedule, and we hope you'll sign up for our e-mail newsletter for updates on upcoming live show announcements.

Sunday August 3, 2014: Since 2006, Mountain Stage has been recording regular episodes in Bristol, the small border town that straddles Virginia and Tennessee, at the Paramount Center for the Arts. In 1927, record producer Ralph Peer came to Bristol to record what would become the first commercially successful recordings of The Carter Family, The Stoneman Family, Jimmie Rodgers and others. It came to be known as the "Big Bang of Country Music" and Bristol has since been designated the "Birthplace of Country Music." Mountain Stage will cap off a weekend of events to celebrate the grand opening of their much-anticipated Birthplace of Country Music Museum. We've got a line-up worthy of such a historic event, as we welcome Country and Pop superstar Martina McBride to perform songs from her latest CD, the R&B influenced "Everlasting." We also have two descendants of the Carter Family scheduled to perform: Carlene Carter, whose latest, "Carter Girl"  is a ode to her ancestors, and a trio led by A.P. Carter's grandson, Dale Jett & Hello Stranger. Also appearing is the legendary bluegrass band, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver. Tickets are on sale now and we hope you can join us for this historic event.

Saturday August 9, 2014: Mountain Stage takes part in another rich tradition when we close out this year's Augusta Festival at Davis & Elkins College. Our guests will be legendary violinist and composer Mark O'Connor, modern string-band leader Sierra Hull, 2013 NewSong contest winners Cardinal Sons, OCEAN Orchestra, a folk-rock band from the DC area, and two of the top names in old-time music here in WV, Dave Bing and Ben Townsend. Click here to get tickets and join us in Elkins for a rare Saturday night Mountain Stage show. For a bit more on Augusta Festival, check out this cool NPR piece from 2013.
