Lawmakers Consider Bill to Allow Guns on Campuses & Tempers Flare Over Co-Tenancy in Hearing

Feb 10, 2018

On The Legislature Today, we bring you another reporter roundtable where we discuss some of the biggest issues from the week. Host Andrea Lannom is joined by reporters Jake Zuckerman of the Charleston Gazette-Mail and Brad McElhinny of West Virginia MetroNews.

An oil and gas bill was the focus of a public hearing – the issue is called co-tenancy and would allow companies to drill wells on property with the consent of at least three-fourths of the landowners. Rebecca Turnbull brings us the story.

We bring you extended excerpts from a House Education Committee meeting on the Campus Self-Defense Act, which would allow those with concealed weapons licenses to carry guns on campuses in West Virginia.

Breakdown of the Reporter Roundtable:

  • Energy talk; debates over co-tenancy bill
  • China Energy Deal
  • Severance Tax
  • SJR 12 – proposed constitutional amendment states no right, under state constitution, to an abortion
  • HB 4298 – Campus Self-Defense Act
  • PEIA and Teacher Pay Issues
  • Intermediate Courts
