Joy to the World Tickets On Sale Friday
Pianist Bob Thompson will present his annual holiday jazz tradition Joy to the World on Thursday, December 8 at the Culture Center Theater on the State Capitol Grounds in Charleston. Advance tickets will be available starting Friday, October 14 at 10a.m. Ticket info is below.
This year Thompson and his band will welcome singer Denise Jannah, who released “ELLA!”, her tribute to legendary vocalist Ella Fitzgerald, in February. Jannah has also been performing as Fitzgerald in a recent theatrical presentation in her native Holland.
Jannah has performed for Royalty and other heads of states: she performed for Beatrix, Queen of Holland and the late Prince Claus, for leaders of the European Union at the “Eurotop”, for presidents Ellen Sirleaf Johnson (Liberia) and Ronald Venetiaan (Suriname), for former president Bill and his wife Hillary Clinton, for the Dutch Crown Prince Willem Alexander and his wife Princess Maxima, for former presidents Kenneth Kaunda (Zambia) and Nelson Mandela, and on separate occasions for Mrs. Graça Machel Mandela and Mrs. Hillary Clinton. In 2011 Denise received the Meer Jazz Award of the Meer Jazz Festival in The Netherlands.

Now in its 24th year, Joy to the World is an annual live performance holiday jazz radio program hosted by pianist Bob Thompson and produced by West Virginia Public Broadcasting. In addition to a distinguished solo career as the leader of the Charleston-based Bob Thompson Band, Thompson has also been a member of the Mountain Stage band since 1991 and in 2015 he was inducted into the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame.
The Joy to the World radio program featuring music the concert will be broadcast in December 2017. The show will also be filmed for broadcast on WVPB television later in December (Dates TBA).
