Health Care Emergencies: The Opioid Crisis and a Shortfall in Prenatal Care

On this West Virginia Morning, addiction specialists and state officials across the region say they've not heard from the Trump Administration and are still waiting to see an emergency plan to address the opioid crisis.

And, while that crisis has been the spotlight for awhile, there are other health care emergencies happening in Appalachia.

Last week, we explored the closure of birthing facilities across West Virginia and what impact that has on women’s birthing options. As Appalachia Health News coordinator Kara Lofton reports, these closures don’t just impact access to birth services, but also access to women’s health care, particularly prenatal care.
