The meeting is being hosted by The Alliance for Appalachia, a coalition of 15 groups across the region working to end mountaintop removal, while building local economies.

Environmental groups, labor organizations and federal agencies are expected to attend and explore the potential for regional-level collaboration among local environmental and economic entities.

The group conducted a listening tour over the last year, covering communities in 5 Appalachian states, gathering success stories that organizers hope can inspire other communities.

In a statement the Alliance for Appalachia says 'With the coal industry losing steam, there are big questions to be asked about how those of us who remain can rebuild - not just our economies, but our water, our mountains, and our quality of life"
