A hazardous waste site in Clarksburg could be added to the federal Superfund program’s priority list.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Wednesday proposed adding the former North 25th Street Glass and Zinc property to its priority list. The EPA says the site poses public health and environmental threats.
Glass was made at the site from 1899 to 1989 and zine ore was processed from 1911 to 1924.
Now owned by Harrison Warehouse Services Co., it is used as an automobile repair service and for storage of recycled paper for a pulp facility.
The EPA says a zinc slag pile on the property contains lead. The property near the West Fork River is accessible by bicycle from a recreation trail.
