The Central West Virginia Transit Authority board of directors has adopted a revised drug and alcohol policy that is more stringent than federal guidelines.
The Exponent Telegram reports the policy, adopted Thursday, combines regulations from the Federal Transit Administration and Department of Transportation with local rules allowing CENTRA to test employees for more drugs.
General Manager Vanessa Perkins says FTA and DOT regulations only permit testing of five drugs, and do not address the prescription painkiller problem in the area. The new policy would allow for a 14-panel drug test.
Perkins says the West Virginia Division of Public Transit has given the policy the green light.
