Vera is an experienced and brilliant murder investigator in the North East England county of Northumberland. Kind-hearted but an inherent loner, Vera freely admits she can become obsessed with her job; driven by her own demons, the detective faces the world with caustic wit, guile and courage.

Great Performances partnered with San Francisco Opera, one of the nation’s leading opera companies, to record Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer’s adaptation of the classic Herman Melville novel Moby Dick. Filmed fresh from his headline-making appearance as a last-minute replacement in the title role of Siegfried in the Met Opera’s epic Ring Cycle, Jay Hunter Morris starred as the obsessive Captain Ahab, delivering a bravura performance.

The 44th Season of Sesame Street is well under way and there’s at least one new episode each week during the month of November. In addition, watch on Nov. 27 to see the Sesame Street special “Elmo’s Christmas Countdown.”

Monday, Nov. 4 – “Ironing Monster” -- Grover realizes that people in the Laundromat need his help while his cape is being washed.Thursday, Nov. 7 – “Gotcha!” -- A hidden camera show pops up on Sesame Street that tries to catch bad manners in action.

Live performances: Thursday, Dec. 12 in Charleston, Friday, Dec. 13 in Elkins, and Saturday, Dec. 14 in Morgantown

9:00 p.m. -- Haunted Texas: Peyton Colony -- Host Jeanine Plumer investigates ghost sightings at an abandoned settlement established by former slaves after the Civil War in Peyton Colony, Texas, also known as Freedman's Colony. Residents in the area have reported visions of African Americans dressed in period clothing, as if time never passed.

A new radio documentary from Trey Kay (producer of “The Great Textbook War”) delves into the culture war battles over public school curriculum content in Texas. Listen to The Long Game: Texas’ Ongoing Battle for the Direction of the Classroom on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 9 p.m. on West Virginia Public Radio.
